Our History

1953

On the 6th of October Georg Kaehny and Bernhard Minder founded the company „Handelsgesellschaft Universal Tiefpunkt GmbH“ in Freiburg/Germany (The name Universal Tiefpunkt, “Universal Low Point” refers to the physical term of the eutectic point, meaning the common “low” melting point of metals in an eutectic alloy, for example those which are used for soldering) At the outset the activities are mainly focused on the Federal Republic of Germany

1956 

Starting production in Switzerland

1958

Starting production in France

1963

Starting production in Mexico

1969

Starting production in Brazil

1975

Moving of the company to Bad Krozingen/Germany into a completely new building including modern production plants and administration buildings

1977

UTP is granted, as the first European company, the ASME and VdTüV approvals for quality assured production of welding consumables

1978

Starting production in Yugoslavia. Unfortunately the production plant is destroyed during the war in 1992

1990

Starting production in the USA

1991

UTP becomes part of the Böhler Schweißtechnik group

1996

After The Joint Venture of Böhler Schweißtechnik and Thyssen Schweißtechnik UTP belongs to Böhler Thyssen Schweißtechnik (BTS)

1997 

Together the companies UTP, Fontargen and Soudokay form the Böhler Thyssen Special Welding (BTSW)

1998

In Bad Krozingen the logistic centre of Böhler Special Welding starts its work offering products of the companies UTP, Fontargen and Soudokay

2000

UTP obtains the ISO 14001 approval

2003

UTP takes over the export department of Fontargen. The Böhler-Uddeholm AG becomes the exclusive owner of BTS. UTP celebrates its 50th birthday

2004

Starting production of double shell electrodes in Bad Krozingen
