The approximately 4500 turnouts of the Latvian railway system are, depending on the volume of traffic, subject to a correspondingly high surface wear. In order to maintain traffic safety, these turnouts are renewed through build-up welding at precisely defined regular intervals. After preceding negotiations and inquiries, the Latvian railway LDZ with Mr Junovičs decided to choose UTP as their maintenance partner.
Thus on March 31, 2008 the welding of a turnout was carried out. A first inspection on April 16, 2008 showed the expected good results.

An article in the captive magazine LDZ underlines UTP’s professional approach with the rod electrode UTP BMC, which has been designed especially for the welding of turnouts and which shows excellent Life Cycle Cost results.
